After graduation, I attended UW-Oshkosh for four years, receiving my
bachelor's degree in speech therapy in 1968. That summer I moved to
Fairfield, California and worked as a speech therapist in the school for one
year. In September, 1969, I moved to Iowa where I attended the University of
Iowa. In January, 1971, I received my master's in speech pathology. I then
returned to Fairfield, California, to teach special education for children
with severe communication disorders. I have taught in that program for the
past thirty three years, teaching in four different school districts, from
elementary to high school levels. I met my husband, Rick Meyers, in my first
teaching job and we were married in August, 1972. We first lived in
Vacaville, but in 1980, we built a cedar home in the hills of rural
Vacaville, where we continue to live. We adopted two children, our son,
Chris, in 1981, and a daughter, Tiffani, in 1985. I hope to retire in the
next two years.
