Joan Hunsader Blank
After graduation, Joan attended St. Mary's School of Nursing in Milwaukee
from 1964 to 1967. After Nursing School, she worked at St. Mary's Hospital,
served in the U.S. Air Force, and then went to St. Michael Hospital in
Milwaukee, where she worked until 1986. Joan and Dudley Blank, a pharmacist
at St. Mary's, were married on September 11, 1971 in Algoma. We visited
England, Germany and Switzerland on our honeymoon. We built a home in
Cedarburg in the summer of 1972. Our first child, Gretchen, was born in
February, 1973. In 1974, Joan got back into music when she joined the
Cedarburg Civic Band. Two years later she was a co-founder of the Lakeshore
Symphonic Band. Steven was born in March of 1976 and Jocelyn in May of 1979.
In May of 1982 we returned to Germany for three weeks with nine year old
Gretchen and six year old Steven. Gretchen died of meningitis in March of
1983 following a nine hour illness. Jeff was born three years later in
March, 1986. Joan died three days later of a blood disorder that appeared
hours after Jeff's birth. I remarried, and Janet and I have a 14 year old
daughter named Erica
